COACH is a large-scale healthcare information system sponsored by the Duke Division of Community Health to support the information needs of providers serving Medicaid beneficiaries in Durham County. COACH connects over 30 Primary Care Clinics, 3 Urgent Care Facilities, 5 Emergency Departments, 5 Hospitals, and 5 Governmental Agencies that rely on its information to effectively manage their patients' chronic illnesses. COACH manages close to 200,000 patients, with over 14 million patient encounter records, and supports over 400 users. COACH was one of Topsail’s first major projects and is still a flagship app in operation for 24 years!

Topsail collaborated with its long-time client - the Duke Community Health COACH team - to rebuild the system from the ground up. The motivation was to move COACH onto the Ruby on Rails platform and to modernize the infrastructure to position COACH for continued growth and service for another generation. The result is an even more robust application with the ability to grow even larger, serve more clients, programs, counties, municipalities, and of course - the patients.
