Problem
Anyone who's worked in an OR knows that the morning rush hour is crazy. The Duke Interventional Radiology suites are no exception. Managing the workflow of the surgeons, residents, fellows, nurses, technicians, patients and all the accompanying workflow is a big job, and it gets done every day through great human effort. Communication is a crucial ingredient. So the old system of posting the cases on slips of paper, hooked to magnetic clips, and hanging on a magnetized white board in the coordinators office had to go!
Solution
The IR folks called Topsail and we worked with them to develop an online big board "airport monitor" that facilitates communication. But, the system had to be quick and easy to use. The result is a workflow communication tool that allows all staff to know what's going one and where - "at a glance". Staff update cases through an easy to use web or mobile interface.
Benefits
Instant updates of case status that improves workflow and increases throughput and the ability to handle a greater case load. Greater case load translates into increased revenue and much better resource utilization.
